The author shows the M&A process steps which should be assigned to an M&A consultancy and which of the assigned M&A consultancy functions contribute significantly to professionally achieving the set client goals in an M&A process. 

The author's analysis is based on theoretical considerations from service and M&A research as well as a survey of the 70 most active German groups in the M&A sector.

A CFO who can answer the fit-for-sale question increases the chances of a smooth M&A process. Although an M&A advisor can provide support and carry out certain clarifications, professional and modern financial management is a key factor for the success of a company, not only in an M&A process.
